Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.
Research group awards dental student top honor
Saadman Alamgir, a student in the School of Dentistry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, won first place for a presentation he delivered during the 102nd International Association for Dental Research conference held recently in New Orleans.
Alamgir received the IADR Implantology Research Group Young Investigator Prize for Student Research Award in the Basic Research category for “Finite Element Analysis of Mechanical Testing of Zygomatic Implants.” He coauthored the abstract with Laura Alberto, a biomedical materials science graduate student at UMMC, and Dr. Yuanyuan Duan, associate professor of biomedical materials science and director of admissions in the School of Dentistry.
The award came with a certificate and a check for $500.
IADR is a non-profit research-oriented organization representing scientists, clinician-scientists, dental professionals and students based in academic, government, non-profit and private-sector institutions.

Specialty Pharmacy Program granted dual accreditation
The Specialty Pharmacy Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center has achieved accreditation through two separate agencies: the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).
A specialty pharmacy supplies prescribed medications that treat rare or highly complex health problems. Accredited programs have shown that they meet the highest national standards of quality and safety and demonstrate a commitment to high-quality patient care.
Launched in 2019, UMMC’s program is in accord with the health system’s overall, central mission and vision of improving the health and well-being of patients and the community through the delivery of state-of-the-art health care that is acknowledged nationally for its high quality and impact on health outcomes.
UMMC’s Specialty Pharmacy Program and its staff have been recognized locally and nationally for innovative and effective services provided to patients in association with the Medical Center’s partner outpatient clinics.
