UMMC earns national distinction for women’s health care
Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.
Medical Center recognized for three service lines
The University of Mississippi Medical Center has been recognized for multiple areas of service in the 2026 Women’s Choice Awards-Best Hospitals category, a distinction earned by fewer than 15% of hospitals nationwide.
Among nearly 1,500 hospitals that made the list, UMMC ranked within the top 10% for obstetrics, the top 6% in bariatrics and the top 3% in cancer care.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and excellence of our entire team,” said Dodie McElmurray, CEO-UMMC university and community hospitals. “It highlights UMMC’s commitment to providing exceptional, comprehensive care and to continually strengthening our programs to meet the evolving needs of our patients.”
The Women’s Choice Award identifies the best brands, companies and health care facilities to help women make confident decisions for themselves and their families. It ranks America’s best hospitals across the nation based on criteria that includes relevant clinical performance data, patient experience surveys and accreditations from national health care organizations.
Selection criteria include rates of complications, mortality and readmissions, as well as patient satisfaction and adherence to best practices in quality and safety.
