The University of Mississippi will unveil a new initiative, Flagship Constellations, at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, on the Oxford campus. A livestream will be available for those on the UMMC campus.
Flagship Constellations energize the research collaborations that will be occurring across all UM campuses. Multidisciplinary teams of faculty, staff and students from Oxford, Jackson and other UM campuses will search for meaningful solutions to complicated issues through collaborative thinking in four areas: big data, brain wellness, community wellbeing and disaster resilience. Researchers and creative-minded collaborators will approach these areas with different points of view and practical responses.
Constellation leaders from UMMC include Dr. Michael Lehman, professor and chair of neurobiology and anatomical sciences, on brain wellness; Dr. Josh Mann, professor and chair of preventive medicine, on community wellbeing; Dr. Richard Summers, associate vice chancellor for research, on big data; and Dr. Jonathan Wilson, chief administrative officer, on disaster resilience.
Friday’s event, open to the university community and the general public, will feature short talks by the leaders of the four Constellations.
The idea for the Flagship Constellations was first announced during Chancellor Dr. Jeffrey Vitter’s investiture in November 2016.
