Michael Korpiel has been named chief operating officer for University Hospitals and Health System.
Before joining the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Korpiel was vice president of operations and chief operating officer at Methodist Dallas Medical Center for the last five years. Prior to that, he was senior vice president at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas from 2000-05. Parkland's health system is affiliated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
"My goal is to make the hospitals run efficiently, maintain the quality of health care and make sure employees are satisfied and patients are satisfied," he said.
A graduate of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, Korpiel earned the M.S. in health care administration at Texas Woman's University in Dallas.
Korpiel said he was impressed with the Medical Center leadership's commitment to enhance the education, clinical and research missions.
"With what's happening with health-care reform, the university is in a perfect position to proceed into the future," he said.
