Video: A mother with heart failure delivers hope
Video by: Tré Thornhill
Renata McGrew, a 44-year-old advanced heart failure patient, faced an unexpected and extremely high-risk pregnancy. But through close collaboration between UMMC’s heart failure specialists and maternal-fetal medicine team, she received the support and care needed throughout pregnancy for a safe delivery of her son. Following delivery, she experienced cardiogenic shock and was stabilized with mechanical circulatory support before receiving an implantable heart pump. Today, both mother and baby are thriving.
