The Neuro Institute

The UMMC Neuro Institute provides an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and research surrounding neurological, neurosurgical, and psychiatric illness.

In August 2005, a curriculum committee was established to discuss the necessary elements of a graduate curriculum in neuroscience. The Program in Neuroscience (PIN) was established with 25 core faculty within nine departments: Anatomy, Anesthesiology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Neurology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry & Human Behavior.

Body Donation-The Ultimate Gift

Whole body donation is fundamental to anatomical education and research because human dissection provides an educational tool for training health care professionals. The Body Donation Program of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, administered by the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences of the School of Medicine, is the only whole-body donation program in the state.

Evolution of a Systems-Based Curriculum in Medical Neuroscience and Behavior

In 2016, the School of Medicine embarked on a major effort to develop an integrated, systems-based curriculum focused on neuroscience and behavior, and spanning the first three years of medical training. This work involved three preclinical and four clinical departments with a number of participating faculty.

Clinical Anatomy Program

The graduate program in Clinical Anatomy is a unique doctoral program focusing on three tenets of anatomical education: anatomical content knowledge, educational knowledge, and education research knowledge. The interaction of these tenets is critical to successful teaching in the anatomical sciences in the future, as health sciences education begins a rapid evolution to produce the next generation of health care providers and educators.
