Orthopaedics residents at the Medical Center treat many complex cases routinely seen at trauma centers, but they often go into private practice after completing their education. A new relationship between UMMC and Capital Ortho will provide the opportunity for private-practice based residency training that includes surgery to repair more common orthopaedic injuries and disorders. UMMC's family medicine staff have found a tool to help improve care and efficiency. Visual management boards - marker boards about three feet long placed on a clinic wall - are physically simple. But they provide a road map of staff-generated fresh ideas for patient care, with a means of tracking the ideas to their ultimate implementation.

A rainbow-colored beam-signing party last Thursday kicked off preparations for "Growing Up Together," a celebration of UMMC’s seven-story pediatric expansion's topping off. The beam will remain in the Rainbow Garden before the June 27 ceremony, to be followed by a fundraising reception at the Railroad District in downtown Jackson.
UMMC Awards Team recognition is not just for clinical employees. A new honor – the True Blue Award – will be given to employees in any of the Medical Center’s mission areas for “exceeding what is expected and creating a positive difference in the lives of coworkers, customers, patients and visitors.”

A personal experience helped Edgar Meyer, then-Associated Student Body president, develop a unique idea: to create a student chaplain position so future health care providers could learn how to become more holistic providers. With assistance from pastoral services staff, Meyer's idea has taken root at UMMC.
