Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades place UMMC among health science centers worldwide.
Hall named to association board
Dr. Michael Hall, professor and chair of the Department of Medicine and Patrick K. Lehan Endowed Chair of Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, will serve on the American Heart Association’s Southeast Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
Hall is a 2005 graduate of the School of Medicine at UMMC, where he completed his residency in internal medicine and a cardiology fellowship. At Wake Forest University Health Sciences in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he completed a cardiovascular imaging fellowship and earned a master’s degree in clinical and population translational sciences.
He has served chair of medicine since March 2022 and is the former associate director of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and former associate vice chair of research for the Department of Medicine.
“Dr. Hall is so well thought of in the Mississippi medical community and beyond,” Jennifer Hopping, executive director, American Heart Association Metro Jackson, said in a statement.
“We are honored to have him continue to work with the heart association.”
Hall will be serving a region covering Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
“It is an honor to serve on the Southeast regional board,” Hall said. “As a long-time volunteer with the American Heart Association, I look forward to reaching all communities within the Southeast. Continuing the mission of the association has been at the forefront of my ideal goals.
“It is an exciting time to be part of the association’s second century.”
