Releasing Sensitive Order Results
Published on Monday, March 8, 2021
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) published the "21st Century Cures Act" (Information Blocking) that requires providers, health information exchanges and networks, and health IT developers to not engage in "information blocking". Therefore, for a limited subset of labs, it is possible for the provider to delay the release of a result. During the ordering of the lab, clinicians will have the option to select to have the results "Immediate or Manually Release Only".
