To improve ordering and collection of urinalysis and urine cultures for catheterized patients, the Urinalysis and Urine Culture order panelhas been revised for the Jackson campus. The revision will be placed in Epic on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. If the Foley placement is 5 days or greater old, the panel links the culture order, a new Foley order, and a nursing order/task to insert a new Foley prior to urine collection. Foley Necessity documentation is completed on the assessment button on the Avatar.

Try It Out: 

1. Place an order for urinalysis and urine culture panel. 

2. Select the specific test to order. 

3. A hard stop will appear once a selection is made further specifying the test based on the selection. 

4. When selecting the UA: Infection Suspected (Urinalysis w/Reflex Microscopic and Culture) a cascade opens. If the answer to "Has the Urine Catheter been in place for 5 or more days?" is 'Yes', a cascade of linked orders to insert a new Foley prior to catheterized urine lab collection will present on the screen. 

5. A Nursing communication order is sent to fire a task on the Brain and Brain sidebar to insert the new catheter and to collect the specimen. 

6. Additionally, documentation of Foley Necessity is required.

Nursing: Access the avatar from the required documentation link on the Brain, or directly on the avatar using the assess/assessment button while in the LDA tab.
