New tip sheets are available for these nursing workflows in Epic: Transdermal Medication Patch Documentation, Dual Medication Sign Off, Requesting Transport for a Discharged Patient, and Requesting Transport Assistance for a Visitor. Transdermal Medication Patch Documentation: A daily task appears on the Brain for assessment and verification of transdermal medication patches remaining intact on the patient's skin. Documentation from the link within the task is recorded on the Assessment flowsheet in the Integumentary section. Click here for the tip sheet: Transdermal Medication Patch Verification. Dual Medication Sign Off: The nurse verifies the 5 rights of medication administration prior to administration with another licensed colleague at the time of administration for dual signoff medication listed in policy. For infusions, this double-checking includes tracing the line from the medication solution to the patient verifying the bag of fluid/medication is correct, the pump is programmed correctly, the line is unclamped, and the infusion is connected to the patient. For full details and the tip sheet, click here. Request Transport Assistance for a Visitor: Requesting assistance for visitor is easily accomplished using Epic. Start the process on Unit Manager, click on Service task on the tool bar, select Visitor Assist, then complete the request form. Requesting assistance via Epic eliminates calls to the ambassador department and easily allows a user to track the progress of the request. Instructions can be found here: Visitor Transport Assistance. Please note area of impact: Jackson campus only. Request Transport for a Discharge Patient: Epic reduces the manual workload on nursing by automatically discharging the patient when a discharge transport request is entered into Epic. From the Unit Manager, select Discharge from the tool bar and complete the discharge screen. Then use the blue link on the discharge screen to access a transport request. Full details and the workflow can be found here: Request Transport for a Discharge Patient. Please note area of impact: Jackson campus only.
