To improve efficiency in ordering urinalysis and urine cultures for both catheterized and non-catheterized patients, a new Urinalysis and Urine Culture order panel has been created. Individual orders of urinalysis and urine cultures will be replaced in Epic on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, with the Urinalysis and Urine Culture order panel. This new panel will replace urinalysis (with and without microscopic), urinalysis with reflex culture and urine culture as orderable tests on the preference lists. By creating the order panel, we also expect the following: 

• Decrease treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria in hospitalized patients 
• Reduce culture overutilization 
• Simplify ordering

1. Place an order for urinalysis and urine culture panel. 

2. Select the specific test to order. 

3. A hard stop will appear once a selection is made further specifying the test based on the selection.
