In March 2020, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) published the "21st Century Cures Act: Interoperability, Information Blocking, and the ONC Health IT Certification Program" final rule. This rule implements provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act 2 requiring providers, health information exchanges and networks, and health IT developers to not engage in "information blocking" by knowingly interfering with the access, exchange, or use of electronic health information. To accommodate this regulation, we will be releasing the following to MyChart for both Ambulatory and Inpatient effective January 1, 2021: - Allergies
- Assessment and plan of treatment
- Care team
- Clinical notes, including pathology narratives
- Goals
- Health concerns
- Immunizations
- All labs, including "sensitive labs"
- Medications
- Demographics
- Problems
- Procedures
- Provenance
- Smoking status
- Unique device identifiers for implants
- Vitals

In 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is requiring changes to the Advance beneficiary Notice (ABN) to accommodate dually eligible beneficiaries. These changes will show up in Epic starting on January 1, 2021. Dually Eligible Beneficiaries Form CMS has issued new instructions for providing ABNs to patients who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. These instructions include striking out some words on the standard ABN form. To simplify this task for end users, we are releasing a form with the text already crossed out. You can select it in standard ABN workflows in Epic.

Epic's LOS section and Calculator are getting redesigned to help satisfy the changes in CPT Guidelines. We will see these changes in our Epic system on January 1, 2021. Please review the Calculate LOS Based on Time Tip Sheet to help you save time when wrapping up visits by entering the time you spent on a visit and calculating a level of service code directly in the Level of Service section. You can also update the telehealth mode to record last-minute changes in how you met with the patient. Note: Speed buttons containing the CPT codes no longer valid will also be removed with this change on January 1, 2021. Please create additional speed button favorites with updated charging codes to save time when wrapping up your visits.
