One-part Zebra Label Changes on August 21, 2023

  • All Adult/Peds nursing units and clinics with Zebra label printers with One-part labels will be affected by this change.
  • If your Unit/Clinic does not use a One-Part Label on a Zebra label printer, then you are not affected by this change.
  • Label will lose a few millimeters in height and length in order to fit on commonly sized vacutainers.
  • As long as the specimen is documented as collected in Epic, collection information will not be required to be handwritten on the label.
  • Continue to handwrite specimen source for all non-blood specimens if the source has not been documented in Epic.
  • Handwritten collection information on the label will be required in periods of downtime.
  • Printing the label after documenting as collected in Epic will not force the collection information to print on the label.
  • Lab will continue to provide zebra labels to all departments.
  • The old stock will correctly print the new label type so the nursing units/clinics will be able to continue their processes without interruption.
