New Medication Action for Giving PRN Pain Medications on the MARRecognizing pain is an individual experience and patients may not describe or experience pain in the same way as other patients. A change has been made in the options on the MAR for giving PRN pain medications. This change not only helps to improve and standardize pain management, but allows pain management that is individualized and centered around the patient. A new action of "Given per Patient Request" has been added for instances of when a patient requests a decreased dose of pain medication than indicated based on the pain assessment scale used to guide pain medication use. This additional option will occur on Thursday, December 22, 2022. This additional option does not change requirements for pain reassessment documentation. Pain reassessment reminders will occur in within Epic with all of the listed options. Users see assessment tasks indicated by an icon on the timeline of the Brain and the Brain Sidebar. Users can click on the icon to complete the flowsheet rows associated with the pain reassessment. Once the reassessment is completed, a green checkmark appears indicating the task is complete.
