Diagnosis and Documentation of Obesity: November 15, 2021Improving hospital documentation is an institutional strategic priority. One area with improvement opportunity is acute diagnosis/documentation of Obesity. On November 15th, a low-impact (to you) feature will become available that automates the addition of Obesity to the patient's hospital problem list, if you deem it appropriate. An example of this passive BestPractice Advisory (BPS) feature is shown below for a BMI range: These BMI based, passive BPAs display in the Admission, Rounding, and Discharge Navigators. Additionally, they appear on the Order Sets tab of Admission Med Rec-Sign, Admission Med Rec-Sign&Hold, and Discharge Med Rec. The BPAs only trigger for patients with a BMI indicating obesity or morbid obesity that do not currently have an obesity-related hospital problem documented on the chart. Accepting the BPA (i.e., checking the Accept button) will automatically add the suggested problem to the patient's Hospital Problem List. |
