Inpatient Nurses - Effective 7/17/19: Identify Patients with Unreleased Treatment Orders
Published on Friday, July 12, 2019
A new column can be added to the Patient List to more easily identify patients with upcoming or overdue treatment plan orders.
A new BPA will fire when a nurse opens the chart of a patient with unreleased treatment plan orders for the current day.
"Patient has treatment plan orders that may be due for release. Evaluate treatment parameters and confirm physicians intent to give chemotherapy prior to releasing orders."
The BPA places a task on the nurses work list:
This is important in the inpatient setting where nurses are more used to orders being on their MAR right away and prevents treatment from being missed. It also prompts nurses in non-oncology units who may not be familiar with treatment plan orders to review the patient's oncology treatment closely and contact the physician if needed.
