ePrescribing NCPDP Script Update - December 17

A planned ePrescribing update will occur on Tuesday, December 17, at 3:00 p.m. as we make mandatory regulatory updates in Epic. During this downtime electronic transmission of prescriptions will be unavailable and prescriptions must be printed.

Users may be impacted with sending New Orders, Refills, and response transactions such as Refill Requests. The downtime should last approximately two hours. An all-clear e-mail will be sent when the updates are complete.

During this downtime prescribers will notice a yellow warning that the medication will not be ePrescribed. If you continue and sign the medication, it will print.

With this new update, prescribers will benefit from new features outlined below:

  • Prescribers will no longer need to squeeze their medication instructions into 140 characters or less. The sig character limit has expanded from 140 to 1,000.
  • Prescribers will be able to indicate they shouldn't receive refill requests for an order they place (A), or specifically who should receive the refill request for an order (B).
    • For outpatient clinics: If "Do not send renewal requests to me" is checked, but the Renewal Provider field is left blank, the renewal message will not be sent to a specific provider and the pharmacy will have to determine who to send the renewal to.
    • For inpatient areas: If "Do not send renewal requests to me" is checked, but the Renewal Provider field is left blank, refill requests for prescriptions ordered at discharge will be automatically sent to the patient's PCP on file in Epic.
