Important Information about Dental Boards
The workflow for documenting patient information will remain the same for dental boards examinations. However, there are a few important things that faculty, dental students, and residents should take note of. Please refer to this tip sheet for specific information about documenting patient information and grading information for dental boards in Epic.
Diagnosis is Now Required for Procedures in OMS
Procedures completed in OMS will now require a diagnosis code to be associated with the procedure. A visit diagnosis should be listed in the encounter before completing the procedure. This makes it more straightforward when the procedures are completed because the visit diagnosis will be available for association. If you do not list a diagnosis on the encounter before clicking the complete button, you will not be able complete your treatments and will need to go back to the diagnosis section to select a diagnosis for the encounter. Checking the box “Associate selected diagnoses with all procedure in this visit that have not been completed” will save you a step by adding the diagnosis to all of the procedures you plan to complete for the day.
New Care Team Report for Dental Students
Dental students can now review the patients they follow by utilizing a new report from their student dashboard within Epic. Students can find the report by going to their dashboard and clicking the report “SOD Student Care Team” to run the report and review the patients that they have seen in the past or are currently assigned to on the patient’s care team.
Students can find their dashboard in their home activities as the fourth activity to the right.
After opening the dashboard, the Care Team report is located on the right hand side under Student Reports. Click the hyperlink to the report to run it. You will be redirected to Reporting Workbench to view the student care team report.
D7321 Update to Require Quadrants
For Faculty and students
Recent updates have been made to dental code D7321 to specify the quadrants related with the procedure. If any students have an outstanding treatment plan for D7321 that has been approved by faculty and does not have required elements indicated, you may be unable to close your encounter or bypass the alerts on the tooth chart. A supervising faculty member will need to enter the quadrant related to the procedure to address the error.
