C-Diff Order Validation

IDSA guidelines for Clostridium difficile have clear recommendations for how PCR testing should be used to best determine true infections, and these guidelines have been adopted for testing at UMMC.

Beginning Monday, November 5, if a patient has been administered a laxative within the last 48 hours, users will not be allowed to sign the C-Diff order. This is only applicable after the third day of admission, and thus does not prevent signing of the order prior to that related to the laxative administration.

However, if the patient is less than two years old, the order cannot be signed at any time beginning immediately upon admission.
