Awareness About Possible Targeted Communications

SUBJECT: Awareness About Possible Targeted Communications
We have been made aware of employees and UMMC departments receiving calls featuring an automated voice from a group claiming to have their personal information.
We believe the messages are related to the Feb. 19 criminal ransomware attack of the UMMC network. In addition to calls and/or voicemails, they may also send e-mails or other direct communications to UMMC or personal accounts. This type of targeting is a known and expected escalation tactic by threat actors.
We continue to collaborate with national authorities and law enforcement on the incident, and the investigation remains active.
In addition, you are encouraged to continue to monitor your work and personal accounts for unusual activity. Please reach out to abuse@umc.edu if you receive a call or any other communication from the group.
