Availability of Secondary RN Positions
October 21, 2021
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. Alan Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs
SUBJECT: Availability of Secondary RN Positions
Staffing shortages in all areas of our health system are a well-documented issue, and one that is not unique to us – hospitals across the country are dealing with similar challenges. This low-staffing problem particularly impacts our nursing workforce.
Clinical staffing isn’t a new challenge, but the impact COVID-19 has had on everyday life has exacerbated the situation. Hospitals and health systems around the country are having to reduce bed capacity and service offerings to align with available staffing. These are not desirable or optimal actions, but ones that we are all facing.
Taking these challenges into consideration, I would like to make you aware of an opportunity that may interest you and would have an immediate positive impact on the staffing challenges we are facing. If you are a registered nurse who is not currently working in one of UMMC’s hospitals and would like to earn extra income, I encourage you to consider filling a secondary RN position within a UMMC hospital. You will receive additional pay and you will help relieve some of the pressure in our hospitals due to the nursing shortage.
If you are interested in learning more about secondary RN position opportunities within UMMC hospitals, please complete the online interest form found here by Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 and someone will follow up with you and discuss possibilities.
Thank you for considering this opportunity and thank you for all you do.
