Assault, Carjacking in Stadium Lot
Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022
TO:All UMMC Personnel
FROM:Dr. Jonathan Wilson, Chief Administrative Officer
SUBJECT: Assault, Carjacking in Stadium Lot
Yesterday evening, a UMMC employee was physically assaulted in Stadium Parking Lot B as they were about to enter their vehicle after leaving work. The male offender demanded a ride from the victim, who dropped their keys and offered their car to the subject. As the offender got in the vehicle and drove away, the victim ran in the direction of a group of nearby UMMC employees, who called 911. No weapon was used in the assault.
UMMC Police is investigating the incident and reviewing surveillance cameras. Officers are following up today on information gained through the investigation on the offender’s possible identity.
We are very concerned for the safety of our employees, students, patients and visitors. An evaluation of this incident and the circumstances surrounding it is underway. A top priority is to do everything possible to prevent future similar occurrences.
Beginning today, there is increased police presence in the Stadium parking lots. Additional measures to increase safety around the Stadium include:
- Increasing lighting and camera placements and
- Adding more shuttle and cart availability from University Hospital to vehicle parking locations.
These additional measures will be implemented very soon.
UMMC personnel who wish to get an escort to their vehicle may contact UMMC Police dispatch at 5-7777. This service is available 24/7.
We need your help in these efforts. We are asking everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious person and/or activity to UMMC Police.
