UMMC Cyberattack Update
February 20, 2026
Medical Center teams are working around the clock in response to Thursday’s cyberattack. Federal authorities continue to assist us, including specialized FBI teams that are onsite. We have engaged the services of three national vendors that are experts in situations like ours including in cyber forensics, recovery and security. At this time, it is still unknown the extent of the infiltration or how long it will take to return to regular operations. Alongside our own UMMC DIS and information security teams, we appreciate the assistance of experts in these fields.
A few update items for our internal community:
- New phone numbers for essential services:
- Mississippi MED-COM: 601-366-4114 for UMMC-related calls and 601-362-4264 for all other inquiries
- UMMC Police dispatch and to report a fire: 601-366-4751
- Facilities Services: 769-798-9225
- Outlook remains active for emails to and from other @umc.edu addresses but only when using a device with an external data connection. The internal wired connection to the network and UMMC wi-fi remain down. Please be aware that email traffic can be spotty at times, with some emails not being delivered in a timely manner.
- We are working on a system that patients can use to reach out for routine medical or medication questions. We will share that pathway when available.
- Also, we are contacting patients receiving time-sensitive care, like chemotherapy, to set up appointments.
- We continue to provide safe, needed care in our hospitals and Emergency Departments. We were able to conduct several emergent surgeries yesterday and will do more today. We have alerted our health care partners across the state that we can start receiving certain transfers of patients needing a higher-level of care and we’ve notified ambulance companies that our ED is off diversion.
Thank you to everyone who is going above and beyond to help deal with this situation and continuing to provide safe, necessary care.
