SUBJECT:  Cyberattack Update

I am leading today’s message with the best news since the criminal attack on our network systems: Clinics will resume normal operations Monday, and Epic will be back online tomorrow!

Internet access is now available to connected computers and devices, and clinical applications are gradually coming online. You should be able to use your office printers.

This is exciting progress not just for us so that we can do our jobs efficiently, but also for our patients who rely on the health care services that only UMMC can deliver. Thank you for your patience, understanding and hard work over the last week.

As you read in this morning’s VC Notes, this remarkable recovery has taken countless hours of work from many teams, namely DIS and the Office of Information Security and Privacy, along with our national and state cybersecurity expert partners. They tell us this typically takes weeks or even months at some institutions. This is not by accident; it’s the result of our strong security environment and other measures we already had in place.

On Monday, we will begin rescheduling patient appointments that were cancelled. Clinics will operate extended hours and days to quickly accommodate as many impacted patient appointments as possible.

Other items of note are that pharmacy and lab services applications are operational and that our patients will have access to their MyChart accounts when Epic comes online tomorrow. With phone lines and internet working, we will resume regular patient call center operations. The UMMC Triage Line (601-815-0000) will remain open for a few days next week but will transfer to the staffed call center.

It will take some time to fully recover from this crisis, but it is very positive that we are making such good progress on restoring our systems and getting closer to full functions.
