Adult and Community Hospitals Leadership Changes
Friday, Dec. 15, 2023
TO:UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM:Dr. Alan Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs
SUBJECT: Adult and Community Hospitals Leadership Changes
I’m pleased to announce that Dodie McElmurray, current chief executive officer of our hospitals in Grenada and Holmes County, has been appointed CEO of University and Community Hospitals, effective Jan. 8, 2024.
In addition to retaining her role as the top executive for our community hospitals, she will be responsible for managing the budget, operations, strategy and staff of University Hospital facilities in this newly created position. Britt Crewse, current CEO of adult hospitals, will depart UMMC on Jan. 9 to join another organization.
Scott Whittemore, current chief financial officer for Community Hospitals, will transition into the newly created position of operations and finance administrator of Community Hospitals, reporting to Dodie, also effective Jan. 8.
Having first joined UMMC in 2003 as assistant director of nursing, Dodie became clinical director of neurosciences and orthopaedics in 2004, assistant administrator of pathology, respiratory services, and biomedical, environmental, food and nutrition and laundry services in 2005 and administrator of clinical support services in 2006. She then served as chief operating officer of Greenwood Leflore Hospital from 2014 to 2017 and West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, Louisiana, from 2017 to 2020. She returned to UMMC in 2020 in her current role.
For many years, Dodie has been a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, which is an international society made up of more than 48,000 health care leaders. She has been active in the organization, serving in several leadership roles. In 2022, she was selected to serve a three-year term on the ACHE Board of Governors, which oversees operations and member services.
Dodie earned a BSN from Delta State University and an MSN/MBA dual degree from the University of Phoenix.
Scott joined UMMC in 2015 in his current role after serving as chief financial officer of Central Mississippi Medical Center from 2010 to 2015 and at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro from 2007 to 2010. He has also been the CFO at Natchez Community Hospital and controller, director of accounting, and director of materials management at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Delta State University.
We are confident in the leadership and skills Dodie and Scott will bring to these new positions. Please join me in congratulating them and thanking Britt for his service to the Medical Center.
