Mandatory Information Security Awareness Training
September 29, 2022
TO:All UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Stacy Baldwin, Chief Integrity Officer
Benson Hill, Privacy and Information Security Officer
SUBJECT: Mandatory Information Security Awareness Training
As we transition into October, which is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, it’s a good time to re-emphasize the importance of cybersecurity in keeping our digital information secure. Using this year’s theme, “See Yourself in Cyber,” we will focus on the “people” part of cybersecurity by providing information, tools and resources to help educate all UMMC personnel on how to be proactive against cyber attacks.
One of the most important resources is our annual Information Security Awareness training, which will be available starting October 1, 2022 in HealthStream for employees and in Canvas for students. The training will focus on phishing prevention, incident response, policy education and other security awareness tips to help improve UMMC’s overall institutional security. UMMC implements various security controls to protect the organization as a whole but the ultimate responsibility rest with each of us. We can all do our part by following basic cybersecurity best practices such as creating strong passwords, backing up data regularly, keeping systems and software up-to-date, protecting UMMC devices and reporting security incidents in a timely manner.
All UMMC faculty, staff and students are required to complete the training by the deadline of December 31, 2022. Failure to complete this mandatory training will result in corrective action.
