Appointment of Chair of Dermatology
Friday, April 7, 2023
TO: All UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. LouAnn Woodward, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs
Dean, School of Medicine
SUBJECT: Appointment of Chair of Dermatology
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeremy Jackson, professor of dermatology, as permanent chair of the Department of Dermatology, effective April 10, 2023.
Dr. Jackson has been serving as interim department chairsince July 1, 2022, succeeding Dr. Robert Brodell, who stepped down to chair the Department of Pathology.
A Meridian native, Dr. Jackson graduated in 2006 from the School of Medicine at UMMC, where he completed his residency in internal medicine. He served an additional year as chief resident before completing his residency in dermatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2013, the year he returned to the Medical Center as an assistant professor of dermatology. He was promoted to professor upon being named interim chair of dermatology.
Dr. Jackson earned Faculty of the Year honors in the Department of Dermatology for 2013-2014 and, in 2017, won the Trailblazer Award for Excellence in Medical Education for the School of Medicine.
At UMMC, he has served on the Long Haul COVID Task Force, Professional Practice Evaluation Committee, and Dermatology Program Evaluation Committee, among others.
Dr. Jackson is co-author of a number of book chapters; he co-wrote a textbook on procedural dermatology with his colleagues. He is a contributor to numerous professional journal articles and has delivered scores of lectures, seminars, grand rounds, and poster or oral presentations in state, local and national settings.
His dermatology specialty clinics serve many of the most acutely ill patients.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Jackson in his new role.
Thank you.
