AirCare flight team names released
March 11, 2025
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. LouAnn Woodward, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs
SUBJECT: AirCare flight team names released
We at the University of Mississippi Medical Center have heavy hearts as we are feeling the deep loss of two of our fellow employees and a colleague from Med-Trans following the AirCare crash Monday.
At this time, we can share the names of those we lost. Dustin Pope, 35, of Philadelphia was the base supervisor for AirCare in Columbus and a flight nurse, and Jakob Kindt, 37, was a critical care paramedic from Tupelo. They both started working for UMMC the same day, Aug. 14, 2017. The Med-Trans pilot was Cal Wesolowski, 62, of Starkville.

All AirCare transport services have been temporarily grounded, and we are working with health care and medical transportation services around the state to meet the needs of Mississippians.
This kind of tragedy can cause mental and emotional distress. I want you to know that we care about your well-being and understand that this loss will be felt for some time. The support and resources of the Medical Center, including the RISE program and our Employee Assistance Program, are available to all who need assistance now and in the future.
UMMC will continue to provide support for the families of the fallen, our AirCare and Mississippi Center for Emergency Services teams and the countless others who worked with them in any way we can
