Institutional Leadership Change
Tuesday, June 4, 2024
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. LouAnn Woodward, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean, School of Medicine
SUBJECT: Institutional Leadership Change
I am pleased to share two important Medical Center leadership changes, both effective July 1.
The role for Dr. Alan Jones will change from associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs to associate vice chancellor for health affairs. The associate vice chancellor for health affairs, which is the designated number two position at UMMC, has been unfilled since I vacated it in 2015 to become vice chancellor. I am confident that the time is right to fill this position and that Dr. Jones is the right person. I very much look forward to having him work with me to provide leadership to all mission areas at UMMC. The associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs position will be filled later. Until that occurs, the clinical mission will continue to report to Dr. Jones.
As a reflection of my dual role as vice chancellor for affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, Dr. Jones will also assume the role of senior associate dean for clinical affairs in the School of Medicine.
To reflect his expanded scope of leadership responsibilities, Dr. Brian Rutledge’s title will include assistant vice chancellor in addition to his existing title of chief of staff. He now oversees the offices of Communications and Marketing, Development and Alumni Engagement, Government Affairs, Human Resources, Information Systems and Well-being, and he works closely in the oversight of Internal Audit, Compliance and the Ombudsperson.
I am grateful for the more than 50 combined years of steadfast leadership provided by Dr. Rutledge and Dr. Jones. Please join me in congratulating and supporting them as their roles expand and they continue their excellent record of service to UMMC.
