New Chair of Radiation Oncology

SUBJECT: New Chair of Radiation Oncology
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Rojymon Jacob as the new chair of the UMMC Department of Radiation Oncology, effective August 1, 2024.
Dr. Jacob is a professor of radiation oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also serves as the lead gastrointestinal radiation oncology specialist for UAB Medicine.
Dr. Jacob received his medical degree and radiation oncology training from the University of Kerala in India, where he went on to become a lecturer in radiation and pediatric oncology. Following that, he completed his clinical oncology registrar training in the UK and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists. He also completed a radiation oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Jacob has more than 30 years of clinical experience and has been recognized with awards from numerous national organizations, such as the American College of Medical Physicists and the Radiological Society of North America. He also holds membership with multiple national and global oncology committees and councils. He currently serves the American Society of Radiation Oncology, the American Board of Radiology (examiner) and National Cancer Cooperative Network (NCCN panelist).
In addition to his clinical and research interests in using novel radiation techniques and approaches to treat gastrointestinal cancers, Dr. Jacob is deeply passionate about education, quality-improvement and faculty mentoring.
