New Community Hospital, UMMC Madison
May 1, 2025
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. Alan Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs
SUBJECT: New Community Hospital, UMMC Madison

Today, UMMC became full owner of the former Merit Health Madison facility. The hospital, now named UMMC Madison, is a member of our family of community hospitals along with UMMC Grenada and UMMC Holmes County, all led by Dodie McElmurray, CEO of university and community hospitals.
We are excited about opportunities for expansion within each area of our three-part mission of providing advanced patient care and health sciences education and conducting cutting-edge biomedical and population health research. This hospital and connected clinics bring additional access to specialists and emergency care, backed by the state’s only academic medical center, to more Mississippians.
A lot of work has gone into this transition, and I extend my gratitude to the many people who have been or will be involved.
