Jackson Medical Mall Power Outage
September 20, 2022
TO:All UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. Jonathan Wilson, Chief Administrative Officer
SUBJECT: Jackson Medical Mall Power Outage
A transformer fire yesterday afternoon at the Jackson Medical Mall caused widespread power and IT/web-connected services outages. Entergy worked on the issue through the evening, restoring some service but, as of this morning, outages remain in some of our JMM spaces.
At this time, Entergy cannot say when repairs will be completed and all JMM areas will be restored.
Managers and supervisors for UMMC units located in JMM have been instructed to make schedule adjustments or arrangements to limit impact to patient care. Additionally, managers should be mindful of the UMMC Remote Work Policy, which can be used where appropriate.
Disruptions to UMMC operations and patient care at JMM have become all too frequent. We have grown increasingly concerned about the ongoing challenges that force us to relocate or cancel appointments with little notice. The inconvenience to patients and employees is frustrating and affects patient care throughout our health system. We are evaluating ways to resolve our issues with the aging JMM facilities, which we do not own but in which we lease space.
Our Facilities Services teams will continue to do all they can to support the JMM operations and Entergy teams leading the repairs. UMMC’s clinical leadership is identifying ways to lessen the impact on JMM-based clinic schedules.
As needed, more information will be shared.
Thank you.
