FROM: Dr. Jonathan Wilson, Chief Administrative Officer
SUBJECT: Update to Mask-Use Requirements
In accordance with current CDC guidelines, the use of masks by all persons in a UMMC facility, including employees, students, other workers, patients and visitors, is now required only in areas of direct patient care, effective immediately.
Mask use is still required in hospitals and ambulatory settings where clinical care is administered but masks are optional outside of these areas. Examples of areas where masks are no longer required include hallways, waiting rooms, cafeterias and lobbies. Examples of areas where masks are required include exam and hospital rooms, nursing stations, procedure and imaging areas and other patient care areas.
When patients and/or visitors transition from a waiting room into patient care areas, proper mask use is required.
All faculty, staff and students must continue to adhere to UMMC’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. Accommodations which have been granted are still in effect as a means of remaining in compliance with the policy.
Thank you.
