UMMC’s Holiday Decorations Guidelines
November 21, 2024
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. Jonathan Wilson, Chief Administrative Officer
SUBJECT: UMMC’s Holiday Decorations Guidelines
As we prepare for the holiday season, we want to offer a warm and appealing, yet safe, environment for all UMMC faculty, staff, students, patients and visitors. The following guidelines must be followed for any holiday decorations or displays at all UMMC locations.
- No natural trees, branches, pine cones, mistletoe or other foliage can be used.
- All decorations must be fire/flame-retardant. All artificial trees used, regardless of size, must be Underwriters Laboratories (UL)-listed and labeled as flame retardant.
- Electrical lighting strings or other similar lighting devices are prohibited.
- Do not decorate any door with wrapping papers or other combustible materials.
- Candles and other flame-producing devices are strictly prohibited.
- Do not place decorations on light fixtures, electrical outlets, circuit breaker panels or other electrical equipment.
- Do not place decorations or other objects in any exit corridor, doorway or stairway.
- Decorations may not extend more than 4 inches into corridors.
- Do not place decorations or other objects where they obstruct access or visibility to emergency exit signs, fire alarm pull-stations, alarm panels, fire extinguisher cabinets or other life safety equipment.
- Do not place decorations within 18 inches of the ceiling, and never attempt to attach any item to a sprinkler head. All decorations hung from the ceiling must also be fire/flame-retardant.
- Do not place any decorations within 3 feet of electrical equipment or other heat-producing sources.
Thank you for your assistance with keeping UMMC safe during this holiday season.
