Appointment of Chief of Police
Oct. 17, 2025
TO: UMMC Faculty, Staff and Students
FROM: Dr. Alan Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs
SUBJECT: Appointment of Chief of Police

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Nicholas Kehoe as Chief of Police and Executive Director of Public Safety for the University of Mississippi Medical Center, effective today.
Chief Kehoe, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia, will continue to oversee all law enforcement, security and dispatch operations for our institution, which he has done since July.
His previous experience at UMMC includes serving as captain of the administrative-criminal investigations in the Division of the Police and Public Safety Department for more than two years, serving as deputy chief for two years, managing the department’s budget, supervising detectives, coordinating major investigations and implementing departmental policies.
Chief Kehoe also served for several years in the Gulfport Police Department, first as a patrol officer who rose in the ranks to detective and then to sergeant, ultimately supervising 15 officers. He was also assigned the role of squad leader of the S.W.A.T. Entry team and was selected as a field training officer supervisor.
Earlier in his career, he also served in the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety and interned at the Lansing Police Department in Lansing, Michigan.
Chief Kehoe has also completed advanced training through the FBI National Academy, Mississippi Law Enforcement Command College, Regional Counterdrug Training Academy, National Council for Behavior Health, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and more.
Chief Kehoe is a decorated law enforcement officer who was awarded the Medal of Valor by the Gulfport Police Department.
Please join me in welcoming Chief Kehoe as he fills this vital role of fostering a safe environment for the UMMC community.
