Dean's welcome

Dear Bower School of Population Health Community,

I am delighted to welcome you to the latest edition of The Bower Buzz, which is filled with exciting updates and achievements from across our vibrant community.

As we enter the new spring semester, I am thrilled to announce several key additions to our esteemed faculty. First, I want to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Jeannette Simino, who has been appointed as the new Chair of the Department of Data Science. Dr. Simino is an accomplished scholar and academic leader whose expertise in biostatistics and genetic epidemiology will undoubtedly strengthen our programs.

I'm also overjoyed to welcome back Dr. Rachel Tyrone as an Assistant Professor in our Department of Population Health Science. Dr. Tyrone is a Bower School alumna whose impactful research and community engagement have earned her national recognition. Her passion for population health will be an invaluable asset to our students.

In this issue, you'll also find a comprehensive recap of the impressive academic productivity of our faculty and students. From groundbreaking publications to prestigious grants and awards, the Bower School community continues to push the boundaries of population health science.

Additionally, this edition celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of Dr. Caroline Compretta and the Jackson Heart Study Graduate Training and Education Center (GTEC), the hard work of our Health Policy Fellows, and, of course, no update would be complete without highlighting the vibrant student life and engagement happening within our school.

As we look ahead, I am filled with optimism about the future of the Bower School of Population Health. With such an impressive team of faculty, staff, and students, I know we will continue to lead the way in population health education, research, and community impact.

Thank you all for your unwavering dedication to our mission. I look forward to the incredible work we will accomplish together in the months and years to come.

Warmly, Thomas Dobbs, MD, MPH Dean, John D. Bower School of Population Health
