Grayson appointed as John D. Bower School of Population Health associate dean

The John D. Bower School of Population Health is thrilled to announce that Bernadette Grayson, MCR, PhD, has been appointed as Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs. Dr. Grayson has been an integral part of the UMMC community since 2014, where she has served in numerous leadership roles, including as President of the UMMC Faculty Senate and a member of the SACSCOC Leadership Committee, Council on Diversity & Inclusion, and School of Medicine Promotion and Tenure Committee.

With her extensive experience in academic leadership and commitment to advancing population health, Dr. Grayson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this role. As Associate Dean, she will oversee academic programming, policy development, accreditation preparation, and faculty support. She is dedicated to ensuring that the academic needs of students are met and is enthusiastic about fostering new programs that address the health challenges facing Mississippi.

“I am honored to take on this new role at the Bower School of Population Health,” said Dr. Grayson. “I look forward to supporting our students and faculty as we work together to advance academic excellence and address the unique health challenges facing Mississippi. It’s an exciting time for our school, and I’m committed to helping us achieve our mission and make a meaningful impact.”

Dr. Grayson’s research interests—spanning obesity, diabetes, and the impacts of metabolic disease on health outcomes—align closely with the mission of the Bower School. Her work contributes to the school's focus on addressing the health disparities that deeply affect Mississippians.
