• Systemic Diseases II - Hospital Dentistry 634-2
  This course consists of approximately 14 hours of work. It will cover outpatient and inpatient dental services for the ASA II, III, IV medically compromised patient. It will address hospital admission, doctor's orders, progress notes, admission notes, laboratory requirements, emergency room treatment, ward treatment, physical examinations, medical histories, medical records, discharge procedures and many other facets of a dental practice and the correct approach to the medically compromised out patient.
• Essentials of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery - 639-1
  This is an introductory course in oral and maxillofacial surgery for second year dental students. It is designed to teach students how to treatment plan and provide the routine oral and maxillofacial surgery care for patients. Lecture content includes the preoperative evaluation of surgery patients and progresses through the intraoperative and postoperative treatment modalities available to the general dentist and management of surgical complications that may be encountered during or following surgical treatment are also discussed.
• Advanced Topics in OMS - 639-2
  The major goal of the senior course is to provide a background and guide for oral and ancillary procedures of the maxillofacial region. Each practitioner will be encouraged to properly assess surgical situations. He or she must then understand what procedures are available for their patients and whether he or she is competent to perform a specific surgery or seek consultation and refer the patient to a specialist in oral - maxillofacial surgery. This course will provide the senior dental student the background and knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and an understanding of when referral to an oral-maxillofacial surgeon is appropriate.
• Oral Lesions - 606-1
  Oral Lesions I is a didactic, lecture-oriented course. The major objective of the course is to introduce dental students to different diseases and conditions affecting the mouth and perioral tissues. Diseases unique to the oral cavity as well as oral manifestations of systemic diseases are covered. The course is designed to provide a base of knowledge about the etiology, clinical manifestations, treatment and prognosis of specific disease entities.
• Oral Lesions II (Oral Pathology Seminar) - 606-2
  The purpose of this course is to develop the student's ability to describe clinical and radiographic lesions presented and to develop a differential diagnosis. The method of instruction in this problem -oriented area consists of a series of clinicopathologic or clinicoradiologic case presentations. Clinical and/or radiographic images will be projected, supplemented by history, laboratory data, and histopathology. Classroom participation, case presentations by student groups and mock patient/clinician interaction will be utilized. Student groups will be assigned radiographic cases and a short history. They must present the case to the class and defend their description and differential diagnosis.
