Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award
Objectives
The objectives of this award are to:
- recognize full-time and part-time John D. Bower School of Population Health (SOPH) staff who have exhibited exemplary service or who have performed beyond what is expected
- promote positive behaviors that are aligned with the SOPH’s mission:
The mission of the John D. Bower School of Population Health is to provide world-class graduate training to prepare the next generation of scientists and health care professionals to improve the health of individuals, populations, and communities through enhancing health care systems and health policies.
Selection criteria
Nominees for the GEM Award should have made a significant positive impact on SOPH endeavors and should demonstrate any or a combination of the following:
- Significant positive contributions beyond what is expected by a department or the school in the areas of process improvement, innovative strategies, collaboration, and teamwork
- Willingness to assist others beyond normal expectations and willingness to assume additional responsibilities
- Identification of new methods for reducing costs or increasing financial efficiencies
- Significant positive contributions to student recruitment and/or to the improvement of the SOPH student experience
Eligibility criteria
- Nominees must be full-time or part-time staff in the SOPH
- Nominees must have been employed by the SOPH for a minimum of 1 year at the time of nomination
- Nominations may be made by any full-time or part-time SOPH employee
Process for nominations and selection
- Nominations must be made using the GEM Award Nomination Form (see below), and the form must be completed in its entirety. Nominations may only be made by SOPH employees, and only SOPH employees may be nominated for the award. Please complete the items below, and click "Submit Form."
- The nomination must include:
- Nominator’s name (nominations may not be anonymous.)
- Nominator’s position in the SOPH
- Nominator’s contact information, including phone number and email address
- Nominee’s name
- Nominee’s position
- Nominee’s department
- A statement describing the nominee’s contributions and how their service was performed beyond what was expected of the position (100-word minimum)
- A statement describing how the nominee promoted positive behaviors aligned with the SOPH’s mission (100-word minimum)
The SOPH Administrative Council will review and score the nominations using a 20-point scoring system (maximum of 10 points for each statement provided). Members of the administrative council are not eligible to receive the award.
