Dr. Yufeng Zheng a leader in AI education
Dr. Yufeng Zheng, professor in the Department of Data Science at UMMC, the state’s first NVIDIA ambassador and a full member of CCRI, has recently presented seminars focused on artificial intelligence in clinical and population health, boosting AI knowledge in the state.
At the University of Mississippi last month, Zheng presented a seminar on AI including breast cancer detection from mammograms, non-contact vital sign monitoring from facial video and real-time micro-expression recognition. The following day, he led a full-day, hands-on workshop on building large language model applications with prompt engineering. Participants worked through 12 LangChain labs, and those who completed the assessment earned an NVIDIA Certificate of Competency.
Participants included students, faculty, and research scientists in engineering, pharmacy, liberal arts, business, law, journalism and IT.
Zheng is the state’s first NVIDIA ambassador.
These programs followed a fall deep learning workshop at Ole Miss and a February workshop on deep learning and AI at UMMC.
As an NVIDIA ambassador, Zheng connects students and researchers with innovative tools, training opportunities and best practices from NVIDIA, strengthening capacity for advanced analytics and innovation across academic programs.
“As we enter the AI era, these technologies will touch every discipline and every community,” he said. “My goal is to provide high-quality, professional AI training that strengthens our institution’s research and educational capacity while translating AI advances into meaningful community impact."
