Director's message
The new year is bringing change, momentum and meaningful progress for the Cancer Center and Research Institute. As we continue working toward National Cancer Institute designation and building a permanent home for CCRI, several important milestones are taking shape.
- On Feb. 3, patient care services will be open at the UMMC Pavilion. This temporary move will provide our patients with a convenient, accommodating space on campus while funds are being raised to build a new five-story home for CCRI. Moving an entire clinical enterprise is no small task, and I am deeply grateful for the coordination, problem-solving and teamwork that’s happening across CCRI and throughout UMMC to make this possible. Every person involved is helping ensure our patients will experience a smooth, uninterrupted transition in their care.
- It’s About Time: The Campaign for the UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute, a philanthropic drive to raise $125 million to help fund our new home, has raised more than 70% of its goal.
- We also begin the year with exciting academic progress. The new cancer biology PhD track has officially launched, marking an important investment in training the next generation of cancer researchers.
- Registration will open Feb. 4 for See, Test & Treat, which will be held April 11 at the UMMC Pavilion. This program brings essential cancer screening and education directly to uninsured and underinsured Mississippians and reflects our ongoing commitment to prevention and early detection.
While change can be challenging, it also reflects forward movement. Each step brings us closer to a future where Mississippi has a modern, purpose-built cancer center worthy of the patients we serve.
Thank you for your continued dedication, flexibility and focus. Together, we are building that future and strengthening cancer care for all Mississippians.
