Dr. Ravishankar Jayadevappa joins CCRI
The UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute welcomes Dr. Ravishankar (Ravi) Jayadevappa as a professor.
Jayadevappa brings deep expertise in patient-centered decision-making, preference assessment, health economics, and comparative effectiveness research, areas that directly support CCRI’s mission and ongoing progress toward National Cancer Institute designation.
An internationally recognized leader in health services research, patient-centered outcomes and prostate cancer care quality, Jayadevappa brings more than 25 years of experience from the University of Pennsylvania and the Cpl. Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center.
At Penn, Jayadevappa served as research associate professor of medicine, associate professor in urology and co-director of the Penn Urology Health Services Research Program, senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, and member of the Abramson Cancer Center. He also held key roles within the VA Medical Center as a Center for Healthcare Evaluation, Research and Promotion core investigator.
He earned a PhD in management and public policy and a master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania and holds an engineering degree from Bangalore University.
Jayadevappa’s research portfolio is notable for its breadth and national impact. He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on numerous federally funded studies supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs. His work has advanced national understanding of treatment preferences, racial and ethnic disparities, quality of cancer care, continuity of care and the economic burden of cancer. He is widely published, extensively cited and frequently invited to speak at scientific meetings in the United States and abroad.
As an expert reviewer, Jayadevappa has contributed to leading journals including JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Network, JCO, Cancer, European Urology, The Journal of Urology and the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. He also serves as editor of PLOS-One and BMC urology journals.
His recent studies include “Factors associated with racial and ethnic disparity in quality of prostate cancer care among veterans and nonveterans,” “Comparative effectiveness of PDT therapy for non-small cell lung cancer” and “Identifying risk factors for new persistent opioid use among veterans following treatment for early-stage cancer.” He also served as co-principal investigator of “The intersection of physical and mental health and short and long-term outcomes among prostate cancer patients.”
