Stephen Porter is April CCRI Employee of the Month
Dr. Stephen Porter, pharmacy supervisor at CCRI, is April’s Employee of the Month.
Porter was nominated by Melodie Goodwin, assistant director of pharmacy services at UMMC, who praised his exceptional leadership throughout the complex transition of the infusion pharmacy during CCRI’s move to the UMMC Medical Pavilion.
Relocating an infusion pharmacy is a highly regulated, detail‑intensive process, far more complicated than simply packing and transporting supplies. Porter coordinated strategic timing and communication with the Board of Pharmacy, DEA, wholesalers and other regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance at every step. At the same time, he oversaw the opening of the pharmacy that remains at the Jackson Medical Mall to support Dialysis and Adult Special Care clinics, navigating another layer of regulatory requirements.
Much of this work had to be completed after hours to avoid disrupting patient care, and Porter led these efforts with steady professionalism and a focus on patient safety. He also kept morale high among his team during a period of significant change, ensuring that staff felt supported and valued.
“Change is hard, but Stephen has worked hard to make this a good experience for all,” Goodwin wrote. “He truly cares about the patients here at the Cancer Institute and is always thinking of ways to make their experience easier.”
