Survivor University expands to all Mississippians, offering free, online resources for cancer survivors

A cancer diagnosis can bring significant physical, emotional and psychological challenges. However, accurate information and support can empower survivors to face the hurdles of treatment and recovery.

Recognizing these challenges, Survivor University was developed as an educational, entirely online program that provides valuable resources to improve the health and quality of life of individuals facing cancer. In a recent expansion, the grant-funded program is now open to all Mississippians, not just those treated at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, offering practical tools and expert guidance for survivors.

"By expanding access to Survivor University, we’re providing cancer patients from all over Mississippi with the knowledge and resources they need, no matter where they live or where they receive care," said Dr. Leslie Musshafen, associate director of administration of the Cancer Center and Research Institute and assistant professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine. "This initiative allows us to reach a wider community, helping patients feel supported as they navigate their cancer journey."

Survivor University offers a comprehensive series of courses focused on survivorship, featuring direct access to subject-matter experts, along with a supportive environment where participants can connect with others facing similar experiences.

Looking towards the future, an app is in development and set to launch this summer which will house all program materials in one convenient, on-demand platform. This feature will allow users to access content at their own pace, from anywhere, further enhancing the program’s impact.
