Sharon Ezell’s dual oncology certifications reflect dedication to excellence in cancer care
Sharon Ezell, nurse practitioner in the Department of Radiation Oncology, has earned two highly-respected oncology certifications - the Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) and Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) credentials.
The certifications, offered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, demonstrate specialized knowledge in oncology nursing. The OCN acknowledges clinical expertise in cancer care for registered nurses, while the AOCNP is specifically for recognizing nurse practitioners who deliver advanced oncology services.
“Caring for patients with cancer, particularly at an academic medical center like UMMC, requires advanced clinical expertise and a deep understanding of evolving evidence-based oncology care,” said Ezell.
Ezell believes that preparing and passing both the OCN and AOCNP exams reflects her commitment to maintain the highest standards in cancer care.
“It is important to me to bring the highest quality cancer care to Mississippians facing cancer. Earning these certifications is one more way I can honor that commitment to our patients and their families,” Ezell said.
