
Rebecca Pope takes on new role as interdepartmental team coordinator in surgical specialty clinic
Rebecca Pope is the new interdepartmental team coordinator for the Surgical Specialty Clinic. A seasoned professional nurse, Pope has a diverse and dynamic career spanning over three decades. Her recent role as a travel nurse, where she worked at various hospitals across the country, highlights her broad clinical expertise.
Her tenure at the University of Mississippi Medical Center before her recent role includes positions such as registered nurse circulator in the Children’s of Mississippi operating room and educator for perioperative services. She also served as an infection preventionist II, nurse manager, and held various staff nurse roles throughout her career at UMMC and other reputable institutions.
As the interdepartmental team coordinator in the Surgical Specialty Clinic, Pope supports disease management by providing nursing care, education and follow-up for patients. She also serves as the contact person for the interdisciplinary team members.
“I am excited to be working with the cancer institute teams and look forward to serving the patients of Mississippi,” said Pope. “I consider it a privilege to be a part of the excellent care being provided here.”
Pope, who holds both a Master of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Mississippi, has extensive experience as a traveling nurse and circulator for Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center, Tulane Lakeside Hospital, and Orlando Regional Medical Center, among others. Her commitment to high-quality patient care has taken her from the East Coast to the Gulf Coast, reflecting her versatile skills and dedication.
In addition to her clinical roles, she has been recognized for her contributions to the field through professional associations, including Sigma Theta Tau and Phi Kappa Phi. She also holds a Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification from the Competency and Credentialing Institute, further underscoring her expertise in the operating room.

Heather Sistrunk, administrative director of clinical affairs for the Cancer Center and Research Institute, further emphasizes the critical role Pope will perform in enhancing cancer care for patients.
