What is your name and new job title?
My name is Angela Dooley Smith. I am the new Thoracic Oncology IDT Care Coordinator.
What does your new job involve?
My new position involves providing coordinated care to newly diagnosed lung and esophageal cancer patients. At the heart of this responsibility lies the development of a clear, strong communication plan, which serves as the foundation for building trust between our patients, their families and our health care team. Overall, my role serves as a bridge, not just linking medical professionals, but also connecting patients with the resources and support systems they need to navigate their treatment journey successfully.
What skills are you most excited to bring to your role here?
The skills I am most excited to bring to the job are adaptability, listening with compassion, time management and critical thinking.
What’s an achievement you are proud of?
My proudest achievement is mothering my two beautiful children Zaire and Anna.
Can you share a bit about your previous work experience and what you enjoyed most?
Throughout my 14-year career as a nurse, I’ve been fortunate to work in various extraordinary settings. I have experience in cardiac telemetry, critical care, oncology, burns, neurology, geriatric psychiatry, observation, surgery, clinic and nursing homes. The true highlight of my career has always been the privilege of meeting my incredible patients. These encounters have been transformative and instrumental, teaching me important values like gratitude, empathy, patience and viewing individuals beyond just a medical condition. Interacting with my patients has truly shaped me into the compassionate and dedicated nurse that I am today.
What is your favorite karaoke song?
My favorite karaoke song to perform is “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner.
What’s your favorite movie or television show and why do you love it?
My favorite TV show is “Rise of the Phoenix.” I love this series because, it’s a captivating story of resilience and perseverance. This series is a poignant reminder of the potential within each of us to achieve greatness, regardless of our starting point.
What is a unique talent you have that most people do not know about?
I can read/mark a daily chart on the foreign exchange market in less than 5 minutes.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would be Egypt.
What is your favorite hobby?
My favorite hobby is trading the foreign exchange.
What is your favorite movie or book, and why do you love it?
My favorite book is “Becoming Supernatural” by Dr. Joe Dispenza. I love this book because the science behind the mind-body connection is fascinating and attention grabbing. This book attempts to link science, spirituality and the power of the conscious and unconscious mind to everyday reality.
