Faculty spotlight: Meet Dr. Jasmine M. Miller-Kleinhenz

Dr. Jasmine M. Miller-Kleinhenz, CCRI member and assistant professor in the John D. Bower School of Population Health, has an undeniable passion for uncovering factors that contribute to cancer health disparities.

Miller-Kleinhenz’s journey began at the University of North Carolina where she received a Bachelor of Science in biology and a Master of Science in molecular diagnostic science. As her penchant for cancer research expanded, she eventually received a Doctor of Philosophy in cancer biology from Emory University.

As a faculty member, her current role includes research, teaching, mentoring and engaging with members of the community. Her research centers on understanding social and structural drivers that contribute to breast cancer disparities, and their impact on tumor biology.

“I am excited to join UMMC and the CCRI because of the commitment of the team to conduct innovative and high-quality research that can improve the lives of Mississippians and beyond,” said Miller-Kleinhenz. “I am hopeful that my research can contribute to the goal of health equity by uncovering factors that contribute to cancer health disparities in Mississippi and working with other members of UMMC and the CCRI to identify the appropriate interventions.”

Above all, she enjoys spending time with her family and engaging in community building through mentoring high school and college-aged youth.
