Becky Stigall, joined the UMMC School of Nursing in October of 2021 as a patient services coordinator for the Mercy Delta Express Project (MDEP). Her primary office is stationed at South Delta Middle School; however, she assists at all Delta clinic locations in this position. She is the MDEP Dermatology liaison between the local health care providers and the UMMC Department of Dermatology. Also, she maintains data for multiple MDEP grants. Most recently, both Anguilla, MS (December 14, 2022) and Rolling Fork, MS (March 24, 2023) were devastated by tornadoes. These tornadoes affected many between the two communities, including many of our students, faculty, staff, and our own MDEP clinic’s families. Stigall has been instrumental in connecting those affected by the storms with resources, and she has worked tirelessly helping coordinate the FEMA distribution center for disaster relief.
A lifelong resident of Sharkey and Issaquena counties, Stigall is a 2001 graduate of Sharkey Issaquena Academy (SIA) in Rolling Fork. She also attended Mississippi Delta Community College and Delta State University. Her previous work experience included 12 years as a home health nursing clerical and billing specialist before she joined the UMMC SON family. Her previous billing experience and knowledge has been integral in helping the MDEP providers navigate through insurance denials, compliance protocols, and recent changes in Medicaid access. Furthermore, she has a genuine heart for the MDEP school community and loves getting to know our UMMC health professional students. She has a caring personality, and it shows in her daily interactions with others.
She is happily married to Rad Stigall of Anguilla, MS, and together they have three children. Their oldest child, Keleigh Jo, is a senior at Sharkey Issaquena Academy, who will be graduating with honors this year and will attend Mississippi Delta Community College to play softball for the Lady Trojans. Their middle child, Owen, is a 5th grader at SIA and is actively involved with 4H Archery through the Mississippi State Extension Service. Their youngest child, Lainey, is a 1st grader at SIA and loves playing softball like her big sister! The Stigalls belong to multigenerational farming families, enjoy hunting together, attend Anguilla United Methodist Church, and spend most of their free time on a ball field or at an archery range.
Stigall says that the devastation over recent months has definitely been trying on her family, friends, and the Sharkey-Issaquena communities; however, through it all, it has been wonderful to see everyone come together to help one another. In light of all that has happened recently, her new favorite quote is, “After every storm, there is a rainbow.”
